Who Are You Becoming?

We spend a lot of time thinking about what we want to accomplish.

What is the next goal? The next promotion? The next project? What needs to be checked off the list?

But lately, I’ve been thinking about a different question:

Who am I becoming?

I believe there are seasons in life when we need to stop focusing so much on what we are doing and pay attention to who we are becoming in the process.

I am not the same woman I was five years ago. Honestly, I am not the same woman I was a year ago. Life has stretched me, taught me, humbled me, and caused me to look at some things differently.

And I’m learning to be okay with that.

Sometimes we hold so tightly to an old version of ourselves because she is familiar. We know her. We know what is expected of her. We know how she operates.

But what if God is calling us into something different?

There are things that once mattered deeply to me that don't carry the same weight anymore. There are things I once tolerated that I no longer have room for. And there are dreams and desires that have become louder with time instead of fading away.

I think that is part of becoming.

Becoming doesn't always require a dramatic reinvention of your life. Sometimes it looks like becoming more intentional about how you spend your time. Sometimes it's setting a boundary you should have set years ago. Sometimes it's allowing yourself to rest without feeling guilty about it.

And sometimes becoming means finally giving yourself permission to pursue the thing God placed in your heart a long time ago.

The beautiful thing is that we don't have to have the entire journey figured out.

There is a version of you that existed because she was exactly who you needed to be for that season. Honor her. Be grateful for her. She got you here.

But don't be afraid to grow beyond her.

You are allowed to change your mind. You are allowed to want something different. You are allowed to slow down. You are allowed to begin again. You are allowed to discover new parts of yourself.

Most importantly, you are allowed to become.

So maybe the question for this week isn't What do I need to accomplish next?

Maybe the question is simply:

Who am I becoming—and do I like the woman I see emerging?

A Moment to Reflect

Take a few quiet minutes with your journal and consider:

Who am I becoming in this season of my life?

What am I ready to leave behind?

What is God inviting me to step into?

You don't have to have all the answers today.

Just make room to listen.

May you lead well, live well, and continue cultivating a life of purpose.
